Zerto Virtual Replication (ZVR)
Zerto’s flagship product, Zerto Virtual Replication, is a comprehensive Disaster Recovery-as-a-Service (DRaaS) solution primarily designed for medium and large-scale enterprises. This application uses hypervisor-based replication, ensuring it replicates data at the virtual machine level rather than at the storage or application level. This process allows for even greater scalability, flexibility, and efficiency in protecting and recovering data across different platforms.
The ZVR application consists of several components that simultaneously deliver consistent data replication and orchestration.
Zerto Virtual Manager (ZVM)
This platform implements a management server that integrates with vCenter and provides a user-friendly interface for configuring and managing replication policies, virtual protection groups, failover, migration, and testing operations.
Zerto Cloud Appliance (ZCA)
Zerto also creates an equivalent of the virtual manager for public clouds like Amazon Web Services, IBM Cloud, Oracle Cloud, Microsoft Azure, and others. The Zerto Cloud Appliance integrates natively with cloud APIs and services and employs cost-effective storage options for data replication.
Virtual Replication Appliance (VRA)
The Virtual Replication Appliance is a scale-out replication appliance integrated into each hypervisor to perform the actual replication of data from the source to the target site. The VRA also provides users WAN optimization, encryption, and quality of service (QoS) features to ensure efficient and secure data transfer.
Journal
Zerto prides itself on its continuous data protection technology. It achieves this functionality by creating a dynamic buffer that chronologically stores every change made to the protected data. With this component, the ZVR application performs point-in-time data recovery from any point in the past up until the configured retention period.
Replica
As the name suggests, the replica component holds a copy of the protected data on the target site, which the journal updates according to the recovery point objective (RPO) settings.
Near-synchronous Replication
Zerto’s replication capabilities are similar to synchronous replication solutions, all while maintaining significantly reduced expenses and complexity. This system achieves Recovery Point Objectives (RPOs) of seconds as well as minutes, thereby minimizing data loss and downtime in case of a disaster or outage.
One-too-many Replication
Zerto enables a virtual machine to replicate concurrently to multiple destination platforms, including another on-premises location, a public cloud, or a managed service provider. This level of functionality enhances versatility and robustness, catering to diverse recovery situations.
Non-disruptive Testing
Zerto enables testing of the recovery process at any time without affecting the production environment or the ongoing replication. Users can also generate compliance reports to prove recoverability and adherence to SLAs
Simple Migration
With Zerto, organizations can migrate data and applications seamlessly across different platforms and locations. The Zerto platform achieves this with minimal disruption and risk by supporting live, offline, and reverse migration options.
Fortify Your IT Infrastructure with Zerto
The Zerto technology is well known for its simplicity, scalability, and flexibility, as it’s designed to work across various virtualized platforms and cloud providers. This makes it a popular choice for businesses prioritizing business continuity, data protection, and disaster recovery in their IT strategies.
